TUESDAY, DEC 6 SESSIONS:
TUESDAY December 6 | 10:00am – 12:45pm (DOUBLE)- PRODUCTION
Innovations in Lighting (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

This session will focus on lighting interviews and using light to enhance your video productions. Instructor, Rollie Hudson, will cover several lighting techniques ranging from 3-point, detail, and projection lighting. light gels, LED vs. Tungsten and Halogen lighting will be covered.

Session will discuss various shooting modes in DSLR and video cameras. Learn how to use various color temperatures and aperture settings in several settings, on-location, controlled light and natural light environments. Learn how to master production lighting with an eye on shot composition and form, positioning equipment and overcoming challenges during production.

BOOTCAMP: VR Basics (Stitch and B**ch) Workshop (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

Two to six cameras (or more). Stitching Software. Editing. Maybe even some rotoscoping work.

This workshop goes through an overview of the post process with VR and examines some of the pain points, leaving you with a practical set of steps involved in VR video production.
A deep look into the field (cameras, rigs), talking about stitching (ouch!) and more will be covered – all the way through output.

Perfect for the Media professional who is beginning to examine VR

Planning, Crewing & Shooting Corporate and Documentary Projects – (separate registration required)

This one-day workshop takes an in-depth look at the creation of corporate and documentary projects of any size from planning through production. Jem Schofield of theC47, who has 20-years experience as a producer, director and cameraman, will take attendees through the process of planning and budgeting, as well as choosing the right crew and equipment for a specific project.

Jem will teach attendees how to determine a video project’s scope, and how to successfully navigate the demands of both client and crew. He will break down and discuss the specific equipment (camera, lenses, lighting, grip, rigs, audio gear, etc.), which are the problem solvers on productions with little to no crew – (something that is very common in today’s production environment).

At the end of the class, attendees will receive proposal and budget templates to use in their own work.

IN-DEPTH: Improve Your Aerial Video and Photography Skills (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

With the rapid rise in aerial video and photography, the world has been saturated with an enormous volume of drone media. Learn how to stand out among other drone pilots with better video and photographs. The Photography portion will cover a brief overview on safety, techniques to improve composition, tips and tricks to broaden your range in aerial photography, post-processing techniques using Photoshop, and how to shoot and process aerial 360 VR photographs.

After that, we will cover aerial video flying techniques, camera movement, and how to create dynamic compositions. At the end of this class you will have a better understanding of working with your drone to become a better pilot, photographer and cinematographer.

BOOTCAMP Working Up & Running with Cinema 4D (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to create 3D graphics into video workflow, this session is for you. In this session we will cover the essential information you need to know to get up and running with Cinema 4D. Since Cinema 4D Lite is bundled free with After Effects, we’ll start there as we get to know the Cinema 4D interface. Once we create some models using generators and object primitives, we’ll move on and explore how to create materials. Then we can move on, light our scene, and fly through with our 3D cameras. Finally, we’ll finish things off and explore how to use some MoGraph tools, and look at the added features that come with a full license of Cinema 4D.

WEDNESDAY, DEC 7 SESSIONS:
WEDNESDAY, December 7 | 10:00am – 12:45pm (DOUBLE) PRODUCTION
In-Depth Shooting, Lighting & Conducting interviews (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

Workshop will include topics around the art of the interview, ranging from camera setups, lighting, audio, and blocking to get the most out of your interview. The session will begin with breaking down the elements of shooting and camera set-up.

Instructor will dive into getting you the best angles for your interviews, such as single shot & two-shot set up, tripod selection and positioning, B-Camera and B-Roll pointers.

There, you will get an in-depth look at lighting for interviews, such as ways to avoid over-exposure, lighting for effect, Rim and detail lighting and color temperature.

This workshop will also teach how to get your Audio just right; Microphone set-up, DSLR workflow and separate or attached audio.

Aside from covering the technical aspects of an interview, the instructor will cover in the moment, media management. This includes interview techniques, getting familiar with the subject, guiding the story, and then putting it all together and then getting your media successfully into edit.

IN-DEPTH Mastering Video Compression for Web and Mobile Devices (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

This session will cover the best practices for the major online outlets of video – YouTube, Vimeo, iTunes, Amazon and more. Master Trainer, Jeff I. Greenberg will answer your questions during the session (and after), making sure you know the best options to help you distribute and monetize your work. Knowing the ins and outs of compression specifications as well as different tiers of plans will help you get the maximum return for your money.

Ideal for the content creator who is looking to understand the options for distributing their content.

Cinematic Video Lighting Workshop for HD & 4K Productions (separate registration required)

As resolutions in production increase (Ultra HD is four times the resolution of Full HD), the way you light your subjects becomes even more important. When your camera sees EVERYTHING, it’s your job to show your talent and locations in their best light.

While the light sources that you use in video production and filmmaking are important, it’s how you shape and control those sources that really make the difference. And it’s even more important when we move from HD to 4K productions.

In this full day workshop by Jem Schofield of theC47, he will focus on using light to achieve cinematic results (mainly low-key lighting techniques), in documentary, corporate and narrative productions. Focus will be in using small kits that don’t require large crews (common on today’s productions).

Target Audience: The workshop is intended for DPs, camera operators and aspiring filmmakers interested in understanding how to quickly and effectively light projects for both HD and 4K productions.

Putting the Camera in Motion (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

The general theme of the course will be “Speed and Efficiency,” discussing the importance of being able to produce results in timely manner, transitioning the camera from tripod, to handheld, to dolly, to jib, etc seamlessly and time efficiently. We’ll be discussing the different types of camera movement devices and their advantages / disadvantages of using each one in different scenarios.

Fixing Audio in Post: How to Get Rid of Common Problems – (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

“Fix It In Post” – Bad Audio is an Epidemic. In this fast paced class, we will discuss approaches to the most common audio issues we face every day. Ambient Noise, Hum, Bugs, Cell Phones … Distortion – just to name a few. What happens when your recording of the President has picked up the camera clicking of the photographer? And is there hope for camera mic audio? This class will primarily be in Adobe Premiere, Audition and Avid Pro Tools, but the skills will transfer to any NLE or DAW.

Designing Better Graphics using Clip, Capture, and Creative Cloud – (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

Adobe Clip and Capture allow you to create wherever you are in the world, because you never know where inspiration might strike next. Since these applications sync seamlessly with the Creative Cloud desktop app, they are more than ready to integrate into your daily workflow. During this session we will create custom vector graphics, stylize footage with custom LUTs, create custom color palettes, quickly create edited opens, and synchronize all of those elements back to our desktop for the finishing touches. Using Clip and Capture allows you to create all these things much more quickly than in a traditional workflow. If you are looking to speed up your workflow and create new methods for finding inspiration, this is the session for you.

THURSDAY, DEC 8 SESSIONS:
IN-DEPTH Legal Issues Facing Content Creators (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

The two most immediate legal issues facing creative are
1) an understanding of intellectual property rights
2) an understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

Instructor Seth C. Polansky is an attorney who concentrates in contracts, intellectual property, start-ups, and general business law. In addition to his 16 years of legal experience, he is also a performing musician, live sound engineer, adjunct college professor and indie film producer. He has used both his experiences with his own creative endeavors and his experiences guiding other creative professionals to craft this seminar.

Topics Covered Will Include:

  • Provide an overview of trademark and copyright – and dispel some myths about “fair use”
  • Walk the class through the ins and outs of the various types of contracts creative professionals are likely to encounter – and the “gotcha”s contained in each
  • Field any and all questions participants might have.

UHD, 4K, 5K, 6K, 8K, HDR, Color Spaces, Rec.709 vs. BT.2020, Log, LUT’s, RAW, Raw, raw? What are they? When do you use them? How do you use them?

As modern 4K+ digital cinema cameras evolve and become more affordable, it is important that you not only learn one particular camera system but how modern production works as a whole.

With digital cinema cameras from companies such as ARRI, Blackmagic, Canon, Panasonic, Sony & RED allowing for not only 4K acquisition but also HDR recording with huge color spaces, multiple recording options (resolutions & codecs), Raw & Log recording and plethora of other options, it’s hard to sort everything out.

That’s what this workshop will focus on.

Designing and Animating Infographics (included in 3-Day DCPP Pass)

Animating graphics can be complicated enough, but when you add the precise requirements necessary when creating infographics things can get downright frustrating. In this session I’ll show you some of the best ways to navigate through the myriad of tools available in Adobe Creative Cloud when animating charts, graphs, numbers, etc. If you’re an editor, designer, or motion graphic artist, this session is designed to outline the optimal processes for creating custom animated infographics. Once we finish this session we will have explored several different workflows and techniques running through Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.

Often the difference between a good mix and a great mix is 2 or 3 db and a couple of frames. And often it’s using the right tools at the right time. In this class you will be introduced to the essential tools audio specialists use every day to create their magic. Ones that you can use too in your NLE. An overview of the essential tools – EQs, Compressors,Noise Reduction Tools and Master Compression Tools – will include in what order they are best effective.Plus, there are many 3rd Party Plug Ins out there – but what should be in your audio tool box and why?
