Dr.Caryn Long
DLN Manager/Lead Education Specialist/Paragon TEC - NASA Langley Research Center

Caryn Long is Lead Education Specialist for the NASA Digital Learning Network™. With twenty-six years of education experience from the elementary classroom through college level; Caryn has worked with aspects of the DLN since her days as an Einstein Fellow at NASA HQ.

She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Queens University and a Masters in Elementary Education from UNC-Charlotte, both located in Charlotte, NC. In 2015 she completed her PhD with a concentration in Educational Technology from Oklahoma State University.  Her dissertation; The Impact of Asynchronous Online Course Design for Professional Development on Science Teacher Self-Efficacy, used Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning as a foundation to inform the construction of online professional development for educators. She has been awarded numerous awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, Eleanor Roosevelt Teaching Fellowship, and runner up for Teacher of the Year in her school system.

Her personal life revolves around her two sons, Forest and Randolph in their hometown of Williamsburg, VA. As a former member of a college ballroom dance team and a life-long dancer, Caryn continues her love of dance through lessons and the occasional performance.

Dr. Long will be joined via video conference with Dr. Gamaliel R. Cherry, NASA lead for the project whose dissertation on inquiry learning in this environment helped contribute to the DLN’s current structure and Rachel Power of Kennedy Space Center, Education Specialist.    Lindsey Jones of Goddard Space Flight Center’s DLN will join in person to share her experiences presenting in the digital medium
