The Promise of DTV, FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein

There's more to the broadcast industry's upcoming transition to digital television than better pictures. Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein of the Federal Communications Commission will explain the benefits of the DTV transition during his keynote address at this year's Government Video Technology Expo.

As mandated by federal law, full-power television stations will cease their analog broadcasts on Feb. 17, 2009. The move to digital television promises improved pictures and sound as well as expanded services for viewers, but it will also usher in a new era of communication capabilities for law enforcement and public safety across the country. Adelstein's keynote will provide a DTV progress report less than three months before the transition is complete.
