Content Preservation and the Library of Congress

James Snyder, Senior Systems Administrator, Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC)

Ten years ago, the Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Va., opened its doors. The facility houses the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of films, television programs, radio broadcasts and sound recordings dating back to the 1800s.

In his presentation, “Content Preservation and the Library of Congress,” Snyder will summarize the design basics of the Library’s NAVCC media preservation center, what has been learned in the first decade of operation, and ideas on how other media organizations can preserve new and existing content collections.
